Falcon 9 Set to Launch Starlink Group 15-15 on October 20
Everything you need to know about the upcoming SpaceX Falcon 9 launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base, targeting Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
SpaceX is gearing up for another busy day at Vandenberg Space Force Base, with a Falcon 9 rocket set to lift off from Space Launch Complex 4E no earlier than Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 4:10 PM PT. The launch window extends through 7:14 PM PT, giving the team flexibility to get the mission off the ground under the right conditions.
This mission, designated Starlink Group 15-15, will carry a batch of 27 satellites destined for low Earth orbit as part of SpaceX's ever-expanding Starlink mega-constellation. Starlink is SpaceX's ambitious project to build a space-based Internet communication system, delivering broadband connectivity to users around the globe, including in remote and underserved areas that traditional ground-based infrastructure has difficulty reaching. Each new launch adds to a growing network that already serves millions of customers worldwide, and this mission continues that steady drumbeat of deployment flights that have become a hallmark of SpaceX's operations at Vandenberg.
The workhorse for this mission is the Falcon 9 Block 5, the mature and flight-proven variant of SpaceX's two-stage rocket that has become the most frequently flown orbital launch vehicle in history. Block 5 was specifically designed with reusability in mind, and SpaceX is expected to attempt a recovery of the first stage booster following stage separation, a now-routine maneuver that continues to drive down the cost of access to space. Once the booster completes its job, the upper stage will carry the 27 Starlink satellites to their intended orbit, where they will eventually maneuver into their operational positions within the constellation.
For residents across the 805 region, a late afternoon launch offers a real opportunity to witness the spectacle firsthand. Depending on atmospheric conditions, observers along the Central Coast may be able to see the rocket's bright exhaust plume climbing into the sky, and if a booster landing is attempted offshore, the distant flash and rumble can sometimes be heard and seen from the coast. Whether you are in Ventura, Santa Barbara, or anywhere in between, this is the kind of event that reminds you just how remarkable it is to have a working spaceport practically in your backyard.
