SpaceX Falcon 9 Successfully Launches Starlink Group 15-16
Recap of the SpaceX Falcon 9 launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. Mission successful.
Early Tuesday morning, SpaceX lit up the skies above California's Central Coast with another successful Falcon 9 rocket launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base, adding dozens of new satellites to its ever-expanding Starlink network.
Lifting off from Space Launch Complex 4E no earlier than 12:25 AM Pacific Time on October 27, 2026, the Falcon 9 Block 5 rocket carried the Starlink Group 15-16 mission into low Earth orbit. The launch window extended until 1:45 AM PT, giving SpaceX flexibility to get the mission off the ground during the overnight hours.
Riding aboard the rocket was a batch of 27 satellites destined for the Starlink mega-constellation, SpaceX's ambitious project to deliver high-speed, space-based Internet communication to users around the globe. Once released into low Earth orbit, the satellites joined the growing fleet that SpaceX has been steadily building through a relentless cadence of launches from both Vandenberg and Cape Canaveral in Florida.
The Starlink constellation has become one of the most ambitious commercial space infrastructure projects in history, with SpaceX deploying satellites at a remarkable pace to expand global broadband coverage, particularly in remote and underserved areas where traditional Internet infrastructure remains limited or nonexistent. Each new group of satellites strengthens the network's capacity and reliability for customers worldwide.
For Central Coast residents, a successful overnight launch from Vandenberg often provides a striking visual spectacle, with the rocket's exhaust plume illuminated against the dark sky as the vehicle climbs toward orbit. Vandenberg's position along the Pacific coastline makes it an ideal launch site for missions targeting polar and Sun-synchronous orbits, as well as low Earth orbit trajectories like those used for Starlink deployments.
With the 27 satellites successfully delivered to orbit, SpaceX continues to check off another milestone in its mission to blanket the globe in broadband connectivity. The company shows no signs of slowing its launch cadence anytime soon.
